Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if it’s the right time to begin intentionally working with psychedelics?

To determine whether now is the right time for you to begin intentionally working with psychedelics, join our free offering, which includes a guided meditation and journal prompts designed to help you answer this exact question.

Is there anyone who should not work with psychedelics?

Before you begin working with psychedelics, be sure the medicine you are working with is safe for you. If you are unsure, please do your research and seek professional support, as each psychedelic medicine has different contraindications.

For those who have a history of mania or psychosis, or a diagnosis of bipolar I or schizophrenia, there is the possibility of an exacerbation of symptoms when working with psychedelics, so it is not recommended.

It is not recommended for anyone on the following medications to work with psilocybin, as they can negatively interact with the psychedelic medicine:

  • Lithium

  • Tricyclic Antidepressants (SSRI's & SNRI's are typically okay)

  • MAOI's

  • Tramadol

It is not recommended for anyone with a heart condition to work with psychedelics.

We also do not recommend anyone taking antibiotics, antihistamines, or any other medication to treat temporary physical illness work with any psychedelic medicine. Wait to begin until your medication is finished and you are feeling better.

Ayahuasca has many serious contraindications, including antidepressants. If you are considering working with Ayahuasca, please speak with those in charge of the ceremony to be sure it is safe for you to attend.

Where should I start?

Meditate on whether you are feeling more called to microdosing or a full-dose medicine journey at this moment in time.

From there, explore our different course options. Allow your intuition to guide you to the course that feels most aligned for you at this moment in time.

What is a psychedelic experience?

A psychedelic experience is an opportunity to explore new and expanded realms of consciousness. When used with intention, care, and respect, psychedelics can provide a pathway toward profound healing, growth, and transformation.

The legality of a particular psychedelic medicine depends upon where it is being worked with. While psychedelics are not yet legal all around the world, millions of people continue to work with them.

Our intention is to provide resources and support to assist you in your work with psychedelics, so that you may have a safe and supportive experience, and receive the greatest amount of benefit from your medicine work.

Are psychedelics safe?

Psychedelics are typically very safe. Psychedelic medicines such as psilocybin-containing mushrooms and LSD require extremely high doses in order to become toxic to the body. That being said, there are certain contraindications for each psychedelic medicine, such as specific medications or pre-existing physical and psychological conditions.

There are certain people for which this work is not recommended, in particular those who are pregnant or breastfeeding (microdosing certain psychedelics can be okay here, depending on the specific person and circumstances), those who have a heart condition, or those who have a personal or strong family history of psychosis and/or mania. It is suggested that those with a diagnosis of bipolar I and schizophrenia refrain from working with psychedelic medicines, as symptoms can be exacerbated. If you are currently taking an antidepressant or other medication, please consult with your prescribing physician regarding any potential interactions.

Ayahuasca has many serious contraindications, including antidepressants. If you are considering working with Ayahuasca, please speak with those in charge of the ceremony to make sure it is safe for you to attend.

If you are uncertain whether a particular psychedelic medicine will be safe for you, please do your research. You can read online, ask a medical professional, or speak with someone who is highly knowledgeable about psychedelics.

Do not consume any psychedelic medicine without being sure it is safe for you.

Will working with psychedelics cure me?

Psychedelics alone will not cure you. Intentional work with psychedelics, however, will support you in changing your life and helping you heal yourself.

There is no magic pill or plant that allows you to bypass the healing your soul desires. This work requires you to be an active participant in your healing.

Intentional work with psychedelics can be a powerful and profound tool on the path of healing. The key to long-term change and transformation lies within the integration of your work with the medicine.

What is integration?

Integration involves processing your intentional work with the medicine, in order to understand and make meaning of your experience. Integration assists you in reflecting on your experience, identifying insights, and implementing the wisdom of the medicine into your daily life.

Integration supports you in utilizing the wisdom of your medicine work to improve your life.

Intentional work with psychedelics can be confusing or challenging to process on your own. We always recommend having support to integrate, as you are not meant to heal alone.

Our courses support you in integrating your intentional medicine work, and we are always available to assist you one-on-one in a private session, as well.

Can I work with psychedelics alone?

The answer depends on what type of medicine work you are doing.

Microdosing (which is when you work with a sub-perceptual amount of psychedelic medicine) alone is typically okay, however we do not recommend ever embarking upon a full-dose medicine journey alone.

Always journey with someone you trust and feel safe with, whether they are sitting for you or journeying with you. Having a sitter ensures the greatest amount of safety and comfort throughout your experience.

Going Inward provides you with a comprehensive “Sitter Guide,” as well as guidelines for journeying with others.

Which course do you recommend for a beginner?

If you are feeling called to begin a microdosing practice, we recommend joining Microdose, which will guide you, step-by-step, through creating and moving through your very own intentional microdosing practice.

If you are feeling called to a low-dose psychedelic experience (more than a microdose, but less than a full-dose journey), we recommend joining Mesodose, which will guide you through your entire medicine experience from preparation all the way through integration.

If you are feeling called to a full-dose journey, we recommend joining Going Inward, which will guide you through your entire medicine journey from preparation all the way through integration.

Explore our courses and see which one calls to you the most. Allow your intuition to guide you.

I want to begin microdosing. Which course is best?

If you are feeling called to begin a microdosing practice, we recommend joining Microdose. This course will guide you, step-by-step, through creating and moving through your very own intentional microdosing practice.

This course also provides daily rituals to do with your protocol, to support you in receiving the greatest amount of benefit from your work with the medicine.

Can you guide me through a psychedelic journey?

We are prohibited from sitting with you during your actual medicine journey, however we created our course Going Inward for this very reason - to support you through an intentional medicine journey, from beginning to end, including preparation all the way through integration.

All you need is someone you trust and feel safe with to be with you during the actual journey.

Going Inward will help you prepare for the journey, provide you with music playlists and guided meditations for the journey itself, and support you in integrating the journey once it is complete. The course will also provide you with a comprehensive Sitter Guide, to support the person sitting with you during the experience.

You can schedule one-on-one sessions before and after your journey, as well, for therapeutic support around your experience.

What if I have a “bad trip”?

The term “bad trip” refers to an experience that is particularly challenging. As long as the set and setting for your journey are safe and aligned, the experience you have is there to support your deepest healing and most expansive growth, and is not bad. You always receive the exact experience you need at that moment in time. A difficult journey can lead to profound healing and transformation.

Journeying with intention, safety, respect, and care, as well as with appropriate set and setting, significantly increases the possibility of you having a healing and supportive experience.

Preparing for your journey with Going Inward will greatly support you in creating the appropriate internal and external conditions for your journey. Going Inward also includes a guided meditation designed to support you during your medicine experience, should any discomfort arise.

If you would like one-on-one support before or after your medicine journey, we are here for you. Please schedule a session.
